About the Artist
I’m Kayla Whitney and this is Koe Design.
I have been a full-time muralist since 2017, and have accrued a variety of experiences painting in that time. I have painted max heights of 30 ft tall, and up to 120 feet wide. I have painted interior and exterior, private and public. I have made works for the City of Toronto, The City of Hamilton and The City of Collingwood. I have collaborated with brands such as the LCBO, Holt Renfrew, The Globe and Mail and Call it Spring Shoes. And I’ve loved every minute of it!
Over the years, I have become a very efficient painter and am able to complete large walls in a very timely fashion. I have an assistant who works seamlessly alongside me to aid this process. I have also created collaborative works in my community in support of BLM where I guided a team of three other artists, and welcomed members of a local arts camp to join in as well. I love the way art and community can work together. I am passionate about my work, about community, and about bettering public spaces.
About the Vibe
I love paint…almost too much.. Sometimes it doesn’t even matter what it is I am painting, as long as me and paint are hanging out. I love materiality - textures, colours, and weird happy accidents. I like to be challenged, I thrive in problem solving situations and I love the feeling of figuring out something new. I am a reformed perfectionist - but nothing pleases me more than a crisp line or a perfect design moment. I am detail oriented yet I love to ride the chaotic waves of creativity and impulse. Paint allows me to explore both of these sides, and it’s why I love working with it so much.
Beyond that, I believe in community building and like to put my art where my mouth is when it comes to contributing and giving back to communities, and working to help them thrive.
